Eloping After 40 Why it’s the most romantic

Eloping Couples 40+

June 5, 2025

Emotional embrace between bride and groom on a dock at Lake Coeur d’Alene, bouquet in hand.

Celebrating John and Janet’s Coeur d’Alene Elopement.

Some love stories aren’t loud. They’re heartfelt, intentional, and quietly powerful—just like Janet and John’s private elopement on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

As an elopement photographer specializing in couples over 40, I get to witness stories that are layered with experience and joy. Janet and John chose to celebrate their love with a romantic, no-stress elopement in one of North Idaho’s most scenic locations—and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

Getting Ready at the Coeur d’Alene Resort

They stayed at the iconic Coeur d’Alene Resort, a favorite among couples seeking a peaceful lakefront experience. I met Janet in her suite while she was getting her hair and makeup done, and I began the day capturing details that told their story—While Janet was getting her hair and makeup done, I photographed the elegant details of her day—her dress, shoes, rings, and a stunning bouquet by Pearl & Tin. The soft tones and textures of the florals were the perfect complement to their relaxed and romantic elopement.her dress, bouquet, rings, and shoes.

Meanwhile, John was getting ready in the next room. I photographed him buttoning up his shirt and slipping on his jacket—quiet moments full of anticipation. There was something special about how calm and present they were.

A First Look on the Docks

Janet and John decided on a first look on the lakeside docks, with the lake glimmering in the background. Janet peeked out from the window, watching John make his way to the dock with nervous excitement. When she finally walked toward him and he turned around—it was emotional and so full of joy. These are the kinds of moments I love capturing most.

This wasn’t just a beautiful elopement. It was a surprise elopement. None of their friends or family knew—they were saving the announcement to share later. That sense of intimacy was woven into the entire day.

A Private Ceremony with Personal Vows

Back in their hotel suite, their officiant Jennifer from Simplicity in Spirit arrived just before 11:00 a.m. for a deeply personal ceremony. Their vow and ring exchange was followed by a touching Irish blessing that reflected their journey.

Eloping in a space that felt comfortable and meaningful allowed them to focus on each other—no stress or expectations.

A Relaxed Celebration with Food, Cake & Champagne

After some portraits around the resort, they took time to unwind together with a charcuterie board from Boards by Brit. Later, they toasted with champagne and cut into a gorgeous mini cake from The Village Bakery CDA. With just the two of them and the lake outside their window, it was intimate and meaningful.

Their final toast on the hotel deck was a favorite moment—simple and full of gratitude.

Portraits by the Lake

We wrapped up the afternoon with a peaceful walk down to the lakeshore around 2 p.m. The light was soft, and the lake gave us a beautiful backdrop for their final portraits as newlyweds.

As a Coeur d’Alene elopement photographer, I always make time for relaxed, natural portraits that reflect both the scenery and the couple’s connection.

Janet and John’s story is a reminder that it’s never too late for a new beginning. Whether you’re starting over, blending families, or simply ready for a wedding day that’s just about the two of you, eloping later in life can be the most romantic choice of all.
